Half-round door units are defined by a radius and a spring line, creating a sense of symmetry and balance. These units offer several functional and aesthetic benefits, including increased natural light, improved ventilation, and enhanced visibility when interacting with visitors. They also contribute distinctive architectural character, adding elegance and visual interest to the home’s entrance. View Designs →

Elliptical entry units are brought to life through complex geometry defined by a major axis, a minor axis, and a spring line. These elements work together to create a smooth, elongated curve that sets the ellipse apart from other arch shapes. The result is a distinctive profile with refined proportions and a graceful sense of movement, offering a unique architectural expression. Beyond their elegant appearance, Elliptical Units provide several practical benefits. They allow increased natural light, add visual height to an entryway without the full rise of a half-round, and create a sophisticated focal point that enhances curb appeal. Their balanced form complements a range of architectural styles, making them an excellent choice for homeowners seeking both beauty and function. View Designs →

Styles
The Sea Island detail features an applied bolection moulding around the panel openings and is available in 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" thickness. This feature maximizes the glass area while allowing for a dramatic panel detail. The glazing can be either TDL or SDL. Our new simulated putty glaze profile has a narrow 11/16" wide mullions to recreate a historic look while using high performance insulated glass. Door stiles can be as narrow as 4" overall with appropriate hardware.

The Paris Mould detail is based on Louis XV profiles and is typical of the moulding used on many Parisian residences. Because of the width of this moulding, it is appropriate for larger doors and doors with few openings. This profiles projects 7/8" from the face of the door and has classic French styling. We have incorporated our simulated putty glaze mullion into this profile when it is used with glass to allow the designer to use this detail throughout the residence. We have shown this detail with our heavy raised panel, although many different panel profiles can be used and quite often different profiles are used on the same door.

The profiles vary on these doors due to the wide range of applications for which they are suited. The thickness gives plenty of strength required for large doors and allows for narrower stiles to be used on tall doors. The panel openings can be filled with normal door sections and door sections which include our other details to create an opening with great depth and detail.
Our French Bolection Detail is borrowed from historic French doors. This profile projects 7/8" above the face of the door and has a deep undercut on the back side in the French tradition. This design allows us to have the moulding around the glass opening and has the mullions coped into the moulding. Our new simulated putty glaze profile with narrow 11/16" wide mullions and our TDL profiles will work in this design. Door stiles can be as narrow as 4" overall with appropriate hardware. This design is featuring our pyramid raised panel in the lower opening on the exterior side. Any of our panel profiles can be incorporated into the moulding.
The BM Standard style uses a small moulding applied around the edge of openings in the door. It is a cost effective way to add depth and width to the openings. The standard stile width is 6 1/4" to allow enough room for hardware outside the moulding. Our heavy raise panel is the standard panel profile for this detail. This detail is used on TDL glass over panel doors, TDL one lite doors, and all panel doors. As with the case on all doors, we need to know the hardware requirements to insure that the moulding will not interfere with the hardware.

This detail was created to match the historic homes of the south where French doors opening onto porches have long been a tradition. Our 11/16" simulated putty glaze mullions allows the use of high performance glass while matching historical profiles. The recessed flat panels with mitered moulding are authentic to the style. Our moveable louver shutters with screens are the perfect compliment to these doors because they allow the doors to be opened to the interior for air. They are closed over the opening, providing insect protection, and the moveable louvers are used to control light and privacy in the room.
