Panels are precisely fitted within machined grooves and intentionally sized to accommodate movement. Every door we produce is custom made using advanced CNC technology. This precision allows for complex detailing and exceptional consistency—achievements impossible to replicate by hand alone. Components are machined to exacting tolerances, then carefully inspected and assembled by skilled craftsmen. Once assembled, each door returns to the router for final sizing and meticulous hardware preparation. Door frames are machined with the same discipline, ensuring a seamless fit. The result is a finished product accurate to within a few thousandths of an inch.

Our door stiles are engineered for enduring stability. Each features 1/8" face laminates, sawn in-house from carefully selected boards to ensure visual continuity and long-term durability. Thick stile edges allow for future trimming, while precisely chosen core materials provide uniform strength. In climates with fluctuating humidity, solid lumber can develop internal stresses that lead to distortion. Our engineered construction eliminates this risk.

Our exterior doors feature our exclusive rimmed panel construction. An exterior-grade plywood core is wrapped with matching solid wood edges, joined with concealed finger joints to prevent separation over time. Once assembled, a 1/8" matching laminate face is pressed using Type I exterior adhesives. Laminates are sawn from individual boards and kept together to preserve grain and color consistency. Each panel is then machined and raised to fit precisely within the door.

This exacting process ensures exceptional dimensional stability. The result is an exterior panel that resists warping and splitting while maintaining the appearance of solid wood.

Understanding How Wood Moves

Wood is a natural, living material — and it responds to its environment. Changes in relative humidity (RH) cause wood to absorb or release moisture. As humidity increases, wood swells; as it decreases, wood shrinks. A 10% change in humidity can result in roughly a 1% size change across the grain. (If you’ve noticed deck boards tightening in wet weather and separating in dry conditions, you’ve seen this in action.) While wood remains stable lengthwise, movement across the grain must be considered in design and installation.

Engineering for Stability

Quality wood products are built to accommodate normal seasonal humidity shifts in climate-controlled homes and offices. Protective, moisture-resistant finishes help buffer these changes and reduce risk of warping or cracking. Material choice also matters. Plywood, for example, has only 5–10% of the shrinkage of solid wood due to its cross-grain construction. Alternating grain directions in each layer restrict movement, making plywood ideal for larger panels that must remain flat as humidity changes.

Storage Matters

Even well-crafted wood products can experience issues if stored improperly. Wood should be kept in controlled conditions prior to installation and remain wrapped to prevent moisture absorption. If wood absorbs excess moisture during storage and is later installed in a dry, climate-controlled space, it can shrink excessively as it acclimates. Maintaining proper storage and finishing practices ensures optimal long-term performance.

A Renewable, Responsible Choice

Wood is also one of nature’s most renewable resources. In the United States, forest growth has exceeded harvest for decades — we are not running out of wood. When responsibly sourced and properly crafted, wood remains one of the most sustainable and enduring building materials available.
